Tyler woman sentenced to 18 years in prison for wreck that killed 2 children

Chasity B. Head, 33, pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter in connection with the deaths of 12-year-old Kyleigh Head and 8-year-old Aiden Rice.

TYLER, Texas — A Tyler woman was sentenced to 18 years in prison for driving while under the influence of marijuana and causing the death of two children. 

Chasity B. Head, 33, pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter in connection with the deaths of 12-year-old Kyleigh Head and 8-year-old Aiden Rice during a July 2022 wreck, according to judicial records. 

She was then sentenced to 18 years in prison, online records show. 

Both of the children, who were passengers in her vehicle, were pronounced dead after they were taken to a Dallas hospital for their injuries in the July 5, 2022 wreck. Neither of them were wearing seat belts, officials said.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to a wreck on July 5, 2022 on State Highway 64 West, just southwest of Tyler.

The investigation at the time showed Chasity Head was traveling north on FM 2661. At the same time, a Freightliner, driven by Trebias Gray, was traveling east on SH 64 W. 

DPS said Chasity Head failed to yield the right of way to Gray's vehicle and was struck on the driver's side.

Two other children and another passenger were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Gray and his passenger were not injured in the crash.
