TYLER, Texas — A Tyler woman has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a July 2022 wreck that killed two children in Smith County.
Chasity B. Head, 33, was indicted on two manslaughter charges for accusations of driving under the influence of marijuana and while 12-year-old Kyleigh Head and 8-year-old Aiden Rice were not wearing seat belts, according to court documents.
Both of the children, who were passengers in her vehicle, were pronounced dead after they were taken to a Dallas hospital for their injuries in the July 5, 2022 wreck.
The indictments came down on April 27 and she was booked into the Smith County Jail on this Tuesday on bonds totaling $500,000.
Indictments also allege that Chasity Head failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to a wreck on July 5, 2022 on State Highway 64 West, just southwest of Tyler.
The investigation at the time showed Chasity Head was traveling north on FM 2661. At the same time, a Freightliner, driven by Trebias Gray, was traveling east on SH 64 W.
DPS said Chasity Head failed to yield the right of way to Gray's vehicle and was struck on the driver's side.
Two other children and another passenger were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Gray and his passenger were not injured in the crash.
