TYLER, Texas — The city of Tyler announced the City Council approved necessary updates to improve service for its customers on Monday.
Golden Road Water Treatment Plant
On Jan. 10, the City Council approved an $247,320 engineering service in partnership with Shermco Industries Inc. for the Golden Road Water Treatment Plant Electrical Assessment.
In addition, the City Council also approved two construction contracts for the rehabilitation of the Charleston Lift Station and the remodeling of TWU's service center building.
"The Golden Road Water Treatment Plant has been a reliable source of safe and high-quality drinking water for decades. However, the core of the plant and electrical components date back to the 1950s," the press release said.
To combat this issue, TWU will began electrical assessments to figure out what replacement measures need to be replaced and updated.
A five-day plant shutdown will be placed to perform the following:
- Insulation resistance testing
- Development of signal line schematics
- Investigate and incorporate all 480 Volt panels in the single line drawing
- Investigate 480 Volt main switchgear
- High service pump panel
- Filter control panel
"We are committed to ensuring that the Golden Road Water Treatment Plant continues to provide our community with safe drinking water for many more decades," said Utilities Director Kate Dietz.
While this shutdown is taking place, the Lake Palestine Water Treatment Plant will provide water for the entire city of Tyler. If an emergency were to occur, power will be restored to the Golden Road Water Treatment Plant.
