TYLER, Texas — An 18-year-old received 10 years' probation Friday for his role in an August 2023 shooting that left one man injured at a Tyler apartment complex.
Xavier Washington, 18, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Aug. 30 shooting at the Southwest Pines Apartments in Tyler. He then received 10 years' deferred adjudication with 800 hours of community service.
Judge Austin Reeve Jackson of the 114th District Court also ordered that Washington not have contact with co-defendants in this case. Jackson said Washington needs to make arrangements to obtain his high school diploma.
Washington was arrested along with Dunruntre Hodge, of Longview, after their vehicle was pulled over at Loop 323 and New Copeland Road. Officers found evidence connected to the shooting. The man injured in the shooting had non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital at the time.
Judicial records show Hodge, who is charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest, will have his sentencing hearing on May 24.
