Tyler State Park opens new headquarters facility

Derek Dye, the Tyler State Park superintendent, said the new additions are meant to pay respect to the original founders of the park.

TYLER, Texas — Tyler State Park opened their new headquarters facility on Friday.

The facility is designed to resemble the Civilian Conservation Corps facilities around the park, and will ease traffic congestion to make the check-in process more efficient. The building also features a gallery highlighting the history of the park as well as improved accessibility for visitors and staff and more office space while incorporating natural materials to help the building blend into the park's native environment.

Derek Dye, the Tyler State Park superintendent, said the new additions are meant to pay respect to the original founders of the park.

"We wanted to for sure honor the CCC who originally built the park we wanted to honor their design and theme of buildings throughout the park," Dye said. "Obviously we wanted to enhance that visitor experiences and we wanted to increase our staff workspace and we're able to do all those things with this facility."

Funding for the project was provided by Proposition 5 through the sporting good sales tax. Planning for the new headquarters began over a decade ago, beginning construction in 2021. The original facility was built by CCC 2888 beginning in 1935.
