TYLER, Texas — The Tyler Police Department hosted it's biannual Drug Take Back Day in conjunction with the DEA on Saturday at various locations across East Texas.
This event aims to provide a safe way to dispose of unwanted prescription and over the counter medications in order to avoid an accidental overdose or misuse.
Officials at the event were able to educate individuals on the risks drug abuse can entail and how to prevent it from happening to a loved one.
"Sometimes we are the place of last resort so I think it's good to know that the city of Tyler Police Department along with the DEA sponsor these events twice a year," primary care provider Dr. Angela Smith said.
One location in Tyler received dangerous drugs like morphine sulfate, an example of how this could of ended in the wrong hands.
