Tyler Mayor Don Warren puts out plea for country music legend Dolly Parton to return to historic Mayfair Building stage

In the social media plea titled, "Waiting for Dolly to Ring," Warren noted the "9 to 5" singer's passion for yellow roses. She took the Mayfair stage back in 1972.

TYLER, Texas — Tyler Mayor Don Warren is hoping that country music icon Dolly Parton will say "Here You Come Again" to Tyler, Texas.

On Thursday, Warren put out a plea on Facebook to Parton to make a return to the Rose Capital as the city works to renovate the Mayfair Building, where she performed back in 1972.

The historic Mayfair dance hall, located at 411 Fair Park Drive, was built in 1927 and served as a prime concert venue for several musicians including Parton herself as well as Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash & June Carter, Hank Williams, Bob Barker and David Allen Coe.

Dolly took the Mayfair stage on Feb. 7, 1972 with country musician Porter Wagoner, who passed away in 2007.

In the social media plea titled, "Waiting for Dolly to Ring," Warren noted the "9 to 5" singer's passion for yellow roses.

"This is the same stage that you sang on. We want you back on this same stage," Warren said. "Would that not be exciting? The Mayfair was built in 1927 and over the years, it has just fallen apart. Well, we are totally restoring the building. It's going to be the dance hall it used to be."

Renovations are underway to revitalize the Mayfair to become the historic dance hall that it once was. The city is looking forward to celebrating the upcoming grand opening.

"It would be a ‘Better Day’ if you were there too. It’s ‘A Gamble Either Way,’ but it wouldn’t be a party without your ‘Coat of Many Colors,'" the social media post read in part. "Now, ‘Just Between You and Me,' the Mayfair Building holds many ‘Sacred Memories’ that you’re a part of, so we hope you’ll be in touch, and we can say ‘Here You Come Again’ to Tyler, Texas. #WaitinForDollyToRing"

Warren added that the city would love for Parton to make her East Texas return to "play a song - two or three or how ever many you want to do."

"We know that this is a long shot," Warren said. "We got to give it a try. We're Tyler, Texas. We dream big, we think big and we want you here. You're a legend. Have your people call our people."
