Tyler man accused of threatening his family with gun, shooting at officers during SWAT incident

Richard Doorman, 48, of Tyler, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault (family violence) and two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer.

TYLER, Texas — A Tyler man accused of pointing a rife at his wife and child and firing at officers was arrested Saturday night. 

Richard Doorman, 48, of Tyler, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault (family violence) and two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer. 

Police say officers responded to a home in the 3000 block of Outwood Drive in Tyler around 10:15 p.m. Saturday saying Doorman pointed a rifle at his wife and child. He then fired shots at officers at the scene, but none of them were hit. 

SWAT and negotiators arrived responded as well and Doorman exited the home peacefully. He was then booked into the Smith County Jail, according to police.
