TYLER, Texas — A Tyler man accused of driving drunk and killing his two passengers in March was arrested last week.
Jose Luis Bravo Jr., 21, is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and one count of possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Smith County Jail on May 27 on bonds totaling $101,000. He was released the next day.
His arrest stems from a March 24 wreck that caused the deaths of Jose Bravo Delgado and Santa Lucia Bravo, an arrest affidavit revealed.
According to an arrest affidavit, Jose Bravo said he was driving a red 2009 Mercedes-Benz C-350 on March 24 on FM 2767, northeast of County Road 387 in Smith County when he crashed after taking evasive action to avoid hitting a dog. He failed to drive in a single lane and went off the roadway to the right side.
His vehicle went over two private driveways, went into a side skid and struck two mailboxes. Then, the vehicle rolled over on its right side and rolled over two more private drives before coming to a stop, the affidavit read.
Jose Bravo was identified as the driver and taken to the hospital at the time. Delgado was pronounced dead at the scene, and Santa Lucia Bravo died two days later at a Tyler hospital, according to the document.
Jose Bravo admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash and a voluntary blood draw showed he a blood alcohol content level of 0.107, the affidavit read. The legal limit in Texas is .08.
