Tyler ISD to begin 2024-25 school year with new Hubbard Middle campus

The new campus for Hubbard Middle School was funded through an $89 million bond that voters approved in May 2022.

TYLER, Texas — Tyler ISD students return to school on Wednesday, which has students and teachers excited. But for some middle schoolers they won’t just be stepping into a new school year, but also a new campus building.

The new Hubbard Middle School campus, located at 4400 New Copeland Road, will officially hold its first classes starting this week.

After multiple years of construction, faculty, staff and students are looking forward to learning the new environment. The new campus for Hubbard Middle School was funded through an $89 million bond that voters approved in May 2022.

The former Hubbard Middle building was 60 years old, and Principal John Smiley said he's ready to move onto new things, while still celebrating their traditions.

"I consider it a pretty big honor. I was a part of opening the new Tyler Legacy when Robert E. Lee transitioned there. And I'm excited to go from the vintage Hubbard -- we call it the vintage Hubbard, not the old Hubbard -- into the new one," Smiley said. "And I don’t take this position lightly in opening the new building."

While construction on the building is finished, construction on the gym and track, as well as bus lanes and additional parking are still in progress.
