Tyler ISD partners with Super 1 Foods for enrichment learning for students with special needs

Students participate in a literacy session which includes story time and a themed snack craft, which Tyler ISD said fosters essential communication skills.

TYLER, Texas — Tyler ISD is celebrating the power of partnerships in both the district and the community by supporting the "educational journey" of students with special needs.

Tyler ISD's new literacy program was born through a collaboration with Super 1 Foods. Each month, students participate in a literacy session which includes story time and a themed snack craft, which Tyler ISD said fosters essential skills in communication, literacy and motor cycles.

October's session featured The very Busy Spider by Eric Carle, with spider-inspired treats using Oreos, Twizzlers, icing and candy eyes.

“Our team is dedicated to creating an educational experience that meets students’ needs in a collaborative, supportive setting,” special education instructional specialist Amber Duke said. “When our service providers work together, we are able to help our students grow and meet their goals. Programs like this highlight the importance of partnership among staff and community supporters.”

Fabiola Hinojosa, manager of Super 1 Foods, funded three months' worth of supplies for the program.

“With community support like Ms. Hinojosa’s, we can bring joy and meaningful learning to our students,” LeBlanc said. “Super 1 Foods’ involvement exemplifies the impact local businesses can have when they support education.”

Matthew Ragan is a parent whose child is enrolled at Bell Elementary School. He voiced his appreciation for the program and lauded the benefits it brings to students' education.

“I think it’s wonderful that there are so many adults working together to help our children progress toward their individual goals in an engaging way," Ragan said. "I know that it brings so much joy to their day.”

Tyler ISD extended their appreciation to Hinojosa and Super 1 Foods for their support in helping the program's success.

"Their support highlights the power of community partnerships in enhancing educational experiences," the district said. "Tyler ISD welcomes additional support from other businesses interested in contributing to the program."
