Tyler ISD schools come together to raise over 117,000 meals to fight hunger in East Texas

Since its start in 1991, the Pantry Raid has raised over 1.7 million meals, according to Tyler ISD and the East Texas Food Bank.

TYLER, Texas — Through a collective effort of generosity, Tyler High and Tyler Legacy brought in 117,243 meals for hungry East Texans as part of the 34th annual Pantry Raid.

The friendly competition came to an end at halftime of Friday night's Rose City Rivalry football game, revealing a $21,745 check toward the East Texas Food Bank that equates to 117,243 meals. The students worked to accept food donations and funds over the past two weeks.

Proceeds from the Pantry Raid go toward the ETFB's BackPack Program. Through the initiative, families are able to pick up a backpack of food with various meals and snacks to help kids who may suffer from food insecurity after school or on weekends.

Since its start in 1991, the Pantry Raid has raised over 1.7 million meals, according to Tyler ISD and the food bank.

“We are incredibly proud of our students, staff, and community members for coming together to make such a significant impact,” said Jennifer Hines, chief communications officer of Tyler ISD. “This competition shows that while Tyler High and Tyler Legacy may be rivals on the field, they are united in their commitment to serving our community and fighting hunger in East Texas."
