TYLER, Texas — On Friday, Tyler ISD inducted a track and field standout into the Athletic Hall of Fame in Tyler.
La Kadron Ivery was recognized during the halftime of the Tyler High School football game on Friday night at the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
A 2001 graduate of the former John Tyler High School, Ivery is an American track and field athlete who has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and in 2021.
Furthering her success off the field, she is also a self-published author, writer, small business owner, mentor, USATF Oregon board member and more.
During her reigning victories at John Tyler High School, Ivery lettered in track where she participated in the 100, 4x100, 4x200 and the long jump.
As a senior, Ivery became a district champion in the 100 and long jump and as a junior broke the Marshall record for the 100 while qualifying for the state championships.
During her sophomore year, Ivery won district and regional titles competing in the 100 meters and won the outstanding freshman award after having personal records of 11.65 in the 100 and 19-8 in the long jump.
After graduating high school, Ivery received a full track and field scholarship to Baylor University. She managed to break records in the 100-meter dash in a little over 11.25 seconds, the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.8, and the long jump with a height of 21.11.
Tyler ISD Athletics has honored 64 former student-athletes, coaches and champion teams since 2013.
