Former Tyler ISD head start student, 1-year-old sister killed in 4th of July shooting

According to documents, the girls and their family were in the car, going to leave a fireworks celebration when the gunfire began.

TYLER, Texas — A former Tyler ISD head start student and her 1-year-old sister were killed during a shooting on the Fourth of July in Fort Worth.

Ivy Pierce died due to gun violence on the night of July 4, according to a Facebook post from Tyler ISD Head Start.

Four-year-old Ivy was one of three people killed in a shooting at a car wash on West Cleburne Road in Fort Worth in the late hours of July 4.  Her younger sister, Wynter Thouston, 1, was also killed in the shooting along with 42-year-old Terrell Winn, according to reporting from our sister station in Dallas, WFAA.

Through her tears, the girls' mother told WFAA that she tried to perform CPR on her wounded daughters.

"I couldn't save my babies," she cried. "Every time I close my eyes, I see their faces."

According to documents, the family was in the car, going to leave a fireworks celebration when the gunfire began. Police say Kanard Trent Murphy, 26, was in a fight with another show attendee and he sat down his own infant and picked up a rifle from his car. The warrant states Murphy chased the target through the car wash, shooting.

Records state Murphy injured five people, including the three who were killed, and all of them were bystanders who had nothing to do with the fight. A family member said the family moved from Tyler to Fort Worth about one month ago, according to WFAA.

Murphy has been charged with capital murder of multiple persons, according to police.

The girls' cousin Briana Mills said Ivy loved swimming and playing on an iPad, adding that she was "a light in everyone's life." Wynter was growing into her personality and she stayed "attached to her momma's leg," the family said.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family at this time,  Donations can be made here

"Our family is asking for support from friends and family to lighten the financial burden while going through this extremely tough time. We are all devastated and want to honor their lives and give them the memorial they deserve," the fundraiser description read.

Funeral services for Ivy and Wynter will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, located at 804 Duckenfield Ave. in Tyler.
