East Texas makerspace announces closure at end of October

Executive Director James Hardin cited the withdrawal of major funding as contributing factor to the closure.

TYLER, Texas — Tyler Innovation Pipeline announced Wednesday that the makerspace will be closing its doors at the end of October.

Executive Director James Hardin said in a Facebook post that the makerspace group will be closing its operations officially on Oct. 31. He cited the withdrawal of major funding as contributing factor to the closure.

"And despite our pursuit of many other sources, we were unable to secure necessary financial support. Furthermore, attempts to continue our mission through partnerships with other organizations have not been successful," Hardin said.

According to the mission statement of Tyler Innovation Pipeline, the makerspace is a place of network of people bringing together those who embrace innovation, entrepreneurship and community involvement by offering tools and and training that help launch projects and businesses.

Hardin thanked those who have invested over the years, and while it wasn't the outcome they wanted, the staff is thankful for people's support, camaraderie, and collaboration.

"The impact we have made in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship will not be forgotten," Hardin said.
