Tyler Economic Development Council purchases 281 acres for new business park

Officials say this will lead to more jobs and increased economic growth.

TYLER, Texas — The Tyler Economic Development Council announced on Monday the purchase of land to develop a new business park.

According to a news release, the TEDC bought the 281 acres of land from the Wisenbaker family to provide a competitive location for attracting new business to Tyler. Officials say this will lead to more jobs and increased economic growth.

“The Tyler Economic Development Council launched its Strategic Sites Initiative in early 2021 with the goal of developing real estate that meets the market demand for economic development projects. A fundamental element of any successful economic development program is having suitable real estate to attract new economic development projects. An economic development program without competitive sites is akin to Baskin Robbins not having ice cream,” said Scott Martinez, TEDC President and CEO.

Martinez explained that the Wisenbaker property has elements that make it competitive for site selection, such as having frontage on both Highway 271 and Farm-to-Market Road 14. The property also has robust electricity, access to city utilities, natural gas and sanitary sewer access.

"There are not many sites available of this size with utility access that can be developed much faster,” Martinez said.

This is the second major land purchase by the TEDC since early last year. In January 2023, the 412 acres was purchased, and it's under development as the Tyler Interstate Commerce Park. Great Southern Wood Preserving - YellaWood is building the world’s largest wood treatment facility on 150 acres within this park.

The Tyler BioPark was renamed to the North Tyler Commerce Park, and Amazon recently purchased 30 acres for a new 140,000 square foot facility to be constructed.

Further information will be released on the TEDC website in the coming months.
