TYLER, Texas — One Black-owned business in Tyler is using its platform and its storefront to promote other Black-owned Texas brands all February long.
Romereo Brown Jr., who was teased as a kid for the way he speaks, created the clothing brand, Weird & Different, to inspire people to embrace their uniqueness and the things that make them who they are.
He said it’s been a blessing to provide a platform to other Black-owned businesses in the Lone Star State.
"One of the brands that we have worked with is called Anmwe Anime," Brown said. "They’re a Black Haitian brand. They have overcome so many different obstacles over time, and they have the coolest anime stuff we have in our store."
In total, Brown said he’s been able to partner with six or seven different brands, displaying what they have to offer in his storefront.
Brown’s efforts to support Black businesses are being recognized in the community too. Last Thursday, Brown was a Black History Month guest speaker for students at Tyler High School.
