TYLER, Texas — Tyler City Council on Wednesday took another step toward creating the Miracle League of Tyler baseball field at Faulkner Park.
The Miracle League of Tyler field will be an inclusive baseball field for children of all mental and physical abilities. The city of Tyler donated the land for the field so kids with disabilities will have the opportunity to learn and play a sport they love.
On Wednesday, the council authorized the city manager to execute a $20,325 contract with Harris Craig Architects, Inc. to complete the design of the field.
The field is being built in honor of Jacks Bryans, an Andy Woods Elementary School student who passed away at just 9 years old in 2022. He was diagnosed with Leigh syndrome at almost 3 years old. His nickname was "Joyous Jack." His father Casey Bryans is involved with the planning of the field.
After the council's vote, Tyler Mayor Don Warren said he loves this project and he's glad that the city is involved.
"This group has come together and has raised this money for people with mental and physical disabilities because these kids want to be part of a team and right now they're not part of a team," Warren said. "They want to play with people like themselves and the parents want to be in the stands and cheer on their kids."
He believes the baseball field will draw people from across the region to Tyler.
The Bryans family hopes the field will be ready for play in spring 2025. Those interested in donating to the Miracle League of Tyler can click here.
