TYLER, Texas — The Rotary Clubs of Tyler's annual Rose City Christmas parade has been canceled because of inclement weather forecasted on Thursday night.
The annual event was set to kick off Thursday night and have a route around downtown Tyler. Organizers voted to cancel the parade rather than postpone the festivities.
This year's parade theme was set to be “Create Hope in the World."
In an email to volunteers, the parade team said because of weather conditions, the Rotary Clubs of Tyler along with the City of Tyler officials have decided to cancel the parade.
"With hugely heavy hearts, in the best interest and safety of the participants and spectators, due to the adverse weather conditions predicted, the Rotary Clubs of Tyler along with the City of Tyler officials have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2023 Christmas Parade scheduled for November 30, 2023," the email read. "Please join us on December 5, 2024 to celebrate once again our wonderful city and community."
Despite the cancellation, city of Tyler will be rescheduling the Christmas tree lighting for another day, city spokesperson Payton Weidman said. The lighting of the tree is typically held on the same night of the parade.
In 2020, the Tyler Christmas parade became a drive-thru event due to COVID-19 concerns at the time.
