TYLER, Texas — The North Northeast Loop 323 extension between American Legion Road and US Highway 271 will remain closed for the foreseeable future as design crews work to develop a bridge in that area.
This part of Loop 323 has been closed since May after a culvert washed out due to heavy rainfall. Crews realized that rebuilding the culvert would not work for this situation, and the Texas Department of Transportation now is planning to build a bridge, TxDOT Tyler spokesperson Jeff Williford said.
Williford said engineers are working to determine what a bridge in that area would like. The project is currently in the design phase. At this time, there is no time frame of when that part of Loop 323 will reopen.
For those who would use the N NE Loop 323 to head north toward US Highway 271, there are two left hand turn lanes to divert them to E NE Loop 323, where they can later turn onto US 271. Those who would turn onto N NE Loop 323 from US 271 will have to drive a little further to turn onto E NE Loop 323.
