Two East Texas women help at border

Two East Texas women take supplies to U-S Mexico border.

TYLER — Help is pouring in from all over for families at the border, including from East Texas.

Dalila Reynoso, of Tyler, and Mary Lou Tevebaugh, of Longview, made the journey to the border yesterday to bring supplies to those in need. Last week, they raised around $8,000 worth of diapers, wipes, food and other supplies.

"We got here on Sunday so then we went to Catholic Charities there and then we loaded off at the place, the storage, where they were putting all the donations," Reynoso said.

Reynoso alone raised more than $1,000, which will go to Catholic Charities an organization helping take care of families at the border. The charity is in need of a new building.

"They only have one shower for the women, one shower for the men and they have a lot of great needs," Reynoso said.

While President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday to end family separations, Reynoso said she has not personally seen any families reunited.

"I spoke with a little girl from Guatemala, she was really upset, she was crying about 45 minutes," Reynoso said.

She said this experience has been eye opening, but it is the least she can do for her brothers and sisters.

"I feel that we need to lift up their voice just to see what to better understand what's going on," Reynoso said. "Even bring it back to East Texas so we can talk to our representatives and make aware to the community what's going on."
