Trinity River Authority issues emergency alert due to potential failure of spillway at Lake Livingston Dam

The Trinity River Authority said it's expected to have further details about the spillway on Monday.

LIVINGSTON, Texas — Authorities are continuing to monitor the Lake Livingston Dam after rounds of rain and flooding impacted the dam's drainage area.

Trinity River Authority officials said the dam's drainage area was compromised, leading to them issuing a "potential failure watch," which means officials will monitor and evaluate the spillway's integrity and make repairs or take other actions as necessary.

They said there's no immediate danger of failure, but the possibility is there.

"The day-to-day operation of the dam will continue as necessary, although normal gate operations may vary as conditions dictate," river authority officials said in a news release.

KHOU 11 News spoke to some residents in the area who said they are not concerned about the release. The TRA says they have received calls from residents looking for information about the dam.
