The trial for a Cherokee County constable accused of intentionally hitting another man with a vehicle in 2021 has been postponed to November.
Cherokee County Pct. 4 Constable James "Jamie" Quinten Beene was indicted on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge in October 2023. His trial was previously set for September.
On Monday, the judge approved a new schedule for Beene's case. Jury selection for the trial will be held Nov. 18 in the 2nd District Court in Rusk.
His next pre-trial hearing will be Sept. 30 and his final hearing before the trial is set for Nov. 4.
The indictment alleges that on Oct. 26, 2021, Beene intentionally, recklessly or knowingly caused serious bodily injury to another man by hitting him with a vehicle. The grand jury also determined that during that incident Beene used the vehicle as a deadly weapon.
Beene has been Pct. 4 constable since 2009.
