1 dead, 2 injured after 18-wheelers collide in Rusk County

The crash is under investigation.

GARRISON, Texas — One person was killed and two more were injured after two 18-wheelers collided Tuesday morning in Rusk County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 7:15 a.m., troopers responded to the crash on U.S. Highway 59, about two miles north of Garrison.

The investigator's preliminary report indicates the driver of a 2020 Kenworth towing a semi-trailer, identified as Jessie Dale Cashion, 40, of Lancaster, and a passenger, Robert Allen Cain, 48, of Nacogdoches, was traveling north on U.S. 59 in the outside lane of traffic slowing to turn right into a private drive.  At the same time, the driver of a 2006 Freightliner truck towing a trailer, identified as Salvador A. Oliva, 65, of Edinburg, was also traveling north on U.S. 59 and struck the rear of the trailer the Kenworth was towing.  

As a result of the crash, Cashion and Cain were taken to a Nacogdoches hospital and are stable.  

Oliva was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to a Nacogdoches funeral home.

The crash remains under investigation.
