Beloved country music star Toby Keith has died, his social media pages announced early Tuesday morning.
According to posts to his official website, Facebook and Twitter pages, Keith passed away Monday night surrounded by family. He was 62.
In 2022, the singer announced he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. In September 2023, he was honored with the Country Icon Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards.
"Bet you thought you’d never see me in skinny jeans,” he quipped when taking the stage to accept the award. “I want to thank the almighty for allowing me to be here tonight. You’ve been riding shotgun with me for a little while.”
Keith's 30-year career produced hits such as "Should've Been a Cowboy," "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," "Red Solo Cup," and "I Wanna Talk About Me."
Per his website, Keith recorded 42 top 10 hits with 32 No. 1s and sold 40 million albums. His songs have been streamed more than 10 billion times.
Keith's family is asking for privacy at this time.
