TYLER, Texas — For a student with vision impairments, finding a path that fits their unique lifestyle can be a challenge.
That is why Tyler ISD and Lighthouse for the Blind put on an event to help students find different opportunities available for them.
“It's really good for them to be able to see what the future looks like, and what they're capable of doing, and how easy or hard It will be, you know, when they get in the real world, and have to deal with stuff on their own,” Pinetree ISD teacher Haley Stewart said.
Students were able to try their hand in a bunch of career fields including engineering, collision repair, culinary arts and veterinary technician work.
“This is a good place to come, do work here, and figure out what you want to do in the future,” Lighthouse student Danian Lustig said.
However, the event was not merely for education. It also allowed students to interact with each other.
“It's really fun to get to hang out with the students not in their classes, and not working on school work," Stewart said. "But get to know them a little bit better and, and to get to know what they like and what they don't like, you know, it's a little bit more relaxed feel."
