Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp soft opening draws hundreds to former Johnny Cace's

“It’s a very, very special night,” said restaurant manager Sara Teel.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp — a “Mexi-Cajun” chain — dropped anchor Saturday in Longview with a splash. The restaurant’s soft opening packed the parking lot at the former Johnny Cace’s Seafood and Steak House property at 1501 E. Marshall Avenue.

Cooks shucked oysters behind a counter as a guest bellowed, “It don’t get no better than this!” Frozen margaritas dotted tables, and some attendees launched into an impromptu sing-along of “Sweet Caroline” led by musician Scott McGill, who manned a small elevated stage.

“It’s a very, very special night,” said restaurant manager Sara Teel. “We’ve done a lot of work trying to get this building open to the public, so to see people in here really means the world to us.”
