TYLER, Texas — Travelers coming and going from the Tyler airport had some friendly furry faces greet them Friday morning.
Therapet, a Tyler nonprofit that provides animal assisted therapy, brought several therapy dogs to the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport to give stress relief to those who are getting ready to board or get off a flight.
The volunteer group has over 70 dogs, three cats, and a cockatoo as trained therapy pets. One of the volunteers said Therapet has been giving comfort during the holidays at the airport since 2013.
For 30 years, the volunteers and pets visited dozens of hospitals and nursing facilities to make patients' days brighter. Then, 10 years ago, they decided to start coming to the airport.
The local group has 30 volunteers who work weekly and the organization is currently in need of more volunteers to help spread the love.
