HOUSTON — The leaders of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas and the Public Utility Commission of Texas will take part in a public hearing at the Capitol Monday.
They’ll talk about the grid reliability and the hot temps expected this summer.
As of now, ERCOT is saying the Texas grid will be able to keep up with the demand for power this summer. However. it will be very close, especially as temperatures climb even higher in July and August.
Looking back, last summer was the second hottest on record for the state of Texas. In fact, in the last 15 years, we’ve seen six of the 10 hottest summers on record, dating back to 1895.
ERCOT recently released its projections for this year. They said, conditions are lining up to see above-average temperatures again and normal to below-average rainfall.
The leaders of ERCOT will join members of the Public Utility Counsel and Public Utility Commission of Texas at the Capitol to update state lawmakers about how they’re bracing for another summer of broken demand records. They’ll also talk about what they’re doing to prepare.
With all the weather-related power outages lately, people in Houston care and want the AC to stay on this summer.
That meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in Austin.
