Texas Department of Agriculture to open applications for Home-Delivered Meal Grant Program

The program offers qualifying at-home meal providers with grant money.

TEXAS, USA — The Home-Delivered Meal Grant Program is opening up its annual application for grant funding later this year.

Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller made the announcement in a press release Wednesday.

The program was established in 2007 and is part of the Texans Feeding Texans umbrella program. It offers funds to governmental and nonprofit agencies that provide at-home meals to seniors and peoples with disabilities.

According to figures from the Census Bureau, one in five Texans is above the age of 60. Another one in 10 Texans has a disability.

"A home-delivered meal is a lifeline, reminding some of our most vulnerable Texans that they're not forgotten," Miller said. "This isn't just about meals; it's about caring for our neighbors."

The application period opens on Sept. 1 and closes on Nov. 1. Applicants must first acquire a financial grant form their county to qualify.
