Texas Tribune to host event centered around healthcare in rural Texas communities on Feb. 16

The event is scheduled to occur on Friday, Feb. 16 at noon at the Tyler Junior College in the Apache Room and online, with a complimentary lunch provided.

TYLER, Texas — The Texas Tribune is gearing up to host a conversation event aiming to highlight healthcare in rural East Texas communities on Friday, Feb. 16.

The event is scheduled to occur on Friday, Feb. 16 at noon at the Tyler Junior College in the Apache Room and online, with a complimentary lunch provided.

During the event, there will be opportunities to discuss further innovations in rural healthcare, according to the press release.

"We'll talk about how communities like Tyler are taking on healthcare challenges and how the future of health care will look in rural Texas," the press release said.

Texas Tribune East Texas reporter, Jess Huff, will be in attendance to further speak with local healthcare and government officials on supporting growth within Tyler when it comes to healthcare.

A list of additional speakers at the event include:

  • Kirk Calhoun, MD, president of UT Tyler and board chair of UT Health East Texas
  • Kristina Childress, senior public health official, and administrator of Angelina County and Cities Health District
  • Doug Curran, MD, East Texas Community Clinic and former president of the Texas Medical Association
