TYLER, Texas — Texas Oncology, one of the largest community based practices in the U.S., announced Wednesday they have recently expanded their pediatric practices into East Texas.
Their new office is located on the campus of the Northeast Texas Cancer and Research Institute, and will offer services to children in East Texas as one of the only sites specializing in pediatric cancer care.
“Historically, families in East Texas had to travel to Dallas or Shreveport for all aspects of care, including outpatient visits and follow-up appointments,” M.D., pediatric hematologist, and oncologist at Texas Oncology–Tyler Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Matthew Fletcher said. “Travel time and related expenses can be a significant barrier for families of pediatric cancer patients in East Texas. I’m glad to be part of the Texas Oncology team bringing this care to Tyler.”
The Tyler location will care for a variety of pediatric cancers, and blood disorders too.
“Individualized care is paramount for pediatric patients. Children have unique medical, social, and educational needs, and their developmental stage plays a significant role in tailoring their care,” President and CEO of Texas Oncology R. Steven Paulson, M.D. said. "By expanding our services to Tyler, we're bringing expert pediatric cancer care closer to families in East Texas, offering a wide range of services and programs to support children throughout their cancer journey."
Texas Oncology-Tyler is now currently taking patients.
