TYLER, Texas — On Friday, first responders from across East Texas participated in incident training to prepare for a large scale emergency.
The training included a scenario where hundreds of concert goers are exposed to a radioactive leak as well as an active shooter drill.
"It’s important that we all know one another well prior to a real event. We need to see what what our facilities can handle, what the response component locally can actually do in an event like this, and create a scenario where we all get on the same page. We know each other prior to a situation unfolding and what we can expect to provide for those counting on us," Charles Clanton, SCESD2 chief of training said.
According to the SCESD2 Facebook page, "these events ensure health care entities and first responders may receiving training in preparation for a large scale emergency response and/or disaster relief, which is required by the state."
Multiple emergency response teams including fire, police and ambulance were on the scene and worked with local hospitals and other emergency preparedness crews during the drill.
