WACO, Texas — With the competition year winding down for many sports for the year, the action for some will reach its apex this weekend in Waco as Baylor welcomes top student esports teams across the state for the fall Texas Esports League Finals.
The video game competition will be held at the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center on campus on Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15, and will showcase top esports teams at the middle and high school levels in a variety of popular games, including Fortnite, VALORANT, Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, League of Legends, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros, Ultimate and Chess.
The event is also a partnership between Baylor and scholastic esports organizer Vanta, a Boston-based company that hosts leagues in Texas, Florida, and Hawaii, and offers fall and spring leagues for students to participate in as well as camps, private coaching, and professional development services.
Entry to the event is free, but those looking to go are advised to register online by going to the EventBrite page here.
Competition each day will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The middle school finals will be held on Saturday, while the high school competition will take place the day after, on Sunday.
