TYLER, Texas — Bricks not only help build houses but will soon be helping to tell East Texas’ history.
The Texas African American Museum in Tyler has announced the beginning of their “Brick by Brick” fundraising campaign.
A new brick garden will feature the names and accomplishments of a local African American residents.
It is expected to be built in front of the museum located on 309 W Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. in Tyler.
For a $125 donation you can honor a loved one with their name and accomplishments carved into a brick planted around the Rosenwald School building historical marker in front of the museum.
"If you have ancestors here in Smith County, Tyler, Texas, and if you want to have those ancestors recognized, please feel free to give us a call. Purchase a brick and have their history noted," Texas African American Museum director Gloria Washington said.
Washington says honoring the contribution of your ancestors will help visitors explore, expand and educate themselves in local African American history.
