TEXARKANA, Ark. — One man is dead and another is in jail after a shooting inside a Texarkana apartment Thursday afternoon.

According to the Texarkana Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call at about 4:15 p.m. at the Rosehill Ridge Apartments.

Police encountered a woman who said one of her relatives was shot inside an apartment. She also told police the suspect and children were also inside the apartment.

Officers were eventually able to enter the apartment and the suspect, 26-year-old Kavante Wright, surrendered to police at the back door without incident.

Inside the apartment, officers found the victim, 35-year-old Eric Gentry, lying on the kitchen floor. He had been shot multiple times. Officers worked to try to save Gentry's life, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe Wright shot Gentry following an argument between the two.

Wright was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently in custody at the Bi-State Jail. He was also arrested on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants for probation violations.

Wright's bond has not been set for the murder charge.
