UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — A teenager was taken into custody for allegedly shooting another teen during an encounter early Sunday morning.
According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:45 a.m., deputies responded to the 7100 block of Gopher Road in Gilmer in reference to a shooting.
Deputies say a 16-year-old male shot a 15-year-old male following a dispute between multiple teens at the location.
The 15-year-old was taken to a Tyler hospital with a serious injury. Other individuals at the scene received minor injuries. The cause of those injuries remains under investigation.
The 16-year-old male fled the scene but was taken into custody shortly after.
Authorities say the 16-year-old was taken to the Gregg County Juvenile Detention Facility and charged with aggravated assault.
The incident remains under investigation with possible additional charges.
