TCJS: Smith County Jail inmate dies due to coronavirus

As of Saturday, Smith County jail facilities has one inmate death, 10 active cases of inmates and 20 active cases of jailers.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has reported the first confirmed COVID-19 related death of a Smith County Jail inmate.

As of Saturday, Smith County jail facilities has one inmate death, 10 active cases of inmates and 20 active cases of jailers. Three inmates have pending test results. Four jailers are quarantined and 205 inmates are quarantined, according to the jail commission.

According to TCJS count, two inmates across all county jail facilities are confirmed to have died from the coronavirus. The other inmate is from the Bexar County Jail in San Antonio.
