KILGORE, Texas — A man was arrested in Kilgore after allegedly leading law enforcement on a chase over the weekend.
According to the Kilgore Police Department, dispatch was alerted to a chase, involving a stolen truck out of Dallas, that originated in Smith County and was approaching Kilgore, on Saturday.
Officers set up spikes in several locations to try and stop the chase from entering town. The KPD says the truck hit spikes twice on U.S. 259 S. and Baughman Rd. The truck slowed down, but continued north into town.
"Vance 'The Goat' Callahan was waiting at Dudley [St.] as the suspect passed," the KPD said. "The truck had left behind the other pursuers, so it was just Vance. He jumped in behind the stolen vehicle and gave chase. By this point, the truck was on flat and smoking. It turned onto Houston and wrecked out in the parking lot of the Meadowbrook Preschool."
The KPD says the driver jumped out of the truck and ran as Callahan chased him in his squad car. As the suspect tired himself out, Callahan jumped out of his unit and handcuffed him, police said.
"The troops later caught up, but 'The Goat' had this one handled," the KPD said. "It was a great job by all, and the coordination worked well."
