Summer safety tip: Officials remind people to remove children, pets when exiting your vehicle

No matter how much you crack a window or provide water, if your car is parked and not running in this heat, the effects can be fatal.

TYLER, Texas — June 21 marks the first day of summer and East Texas is expecting to see triple digit heat soon.

The city of Tyler Police Department wants to remind individuals to never leave a child or animal unattended inside of a hot car without the air condition running inside.

Parents are urged to remove their children from the car seat and take animals with them wherever they go.

If a parent forgets about their children while running errands in the store, this only increases the effects of serious injury or worse.

This gracious act can go a long way and reduce the number of heat-related fatalities across our community.

Check your back seat every time you leave your vehicle to make sure you see your child. Do not leave your pets in your vehicle in this heat.

If you ever find yourself in a life threatening situation, individuals are urged to call 911.
