Through her STEAM labs, Sleeper fostered a learning environment that allowed her students to think critically, analyze cause and effect, and create media.

“The endowment is meant to honor Kathy's memory for years to come,” her husband, Lee Sleeper, said.

The Kathy Sleeper Endowment for Innovation in STEAM Education is expected to fund special projects related to STEAM areas for Bullard ISD students in pre-K through fifth grades.

The East Texas Communities Foundation administers the endowment, and the Bullard ISD Education Foundation will award STEAM grants through the endowment during its annual teaching grant cycle.

“I love that this endowment is now in place, and so would sweet Kathy. For years to come, students and teachers will continue to be blessed by Kathy. What a legacy!” Kasson said.

During her 20 years at Bullard ISD, Sleeper taught everything from pre-K, kindergarten, third, and fourth grades.

She also was an instructional technology specialist in the curriculum department. Before her time there, she was a kindergarten teacher at Alpine Elementary School for two decades.
