LONGVIEW, Texas — On the north side of Longview, Spring Hill ISD began their first day of classes Wednesday for the 2024-25 school year.
"The first day of school has been amazing. Everything went super smooth and the kids are excited to be back at school," said Deanna Turner, Spring Hill Primary principal.
At Spring Hill Primary School, the halls were buzzing with young Panther, learning their way around campus. About 400 students ranging from pre-K through second grade got the chance to move into this year's classroom, where they found brand new tablets or MacBooks to help them with their learning.
The school has a new science lab this year for the first and second graders to perform hands-on experiments.
Safety, which includes a full-time on campus officer, was also a big part of the preparation going into this new school year.
"All of our teachers and staff members in Spring Hill ISD received safety training to make sure that our kids are safe every day they enter the district," Turner said. "We also receive school training, which is if you have a diabetic child or a child with a medical need that we also know how to attend to those students."
The students spent part of their day practicing the pick up and drop off procedures, which includes parent and students using specialized photo IDs before the student is released.
