Spring Hill ISD preserving history at district's oldest building

The museum takes visitors on a 100 year timeline of Spring Hill ISD history. It's located at the historic teacherage building, next to the intermediate school.

LONGVIEW — Behind the Intermediate School in Longview sits the oldest building in the Spring Hill Independent School District system. The district hopes to preserve both the building and the system's history in a new museum covering the century-long history of Spring Hill ISD.

In 1933, the Teacherage Building was the superintendent's home and a home for single female teachers. Historians say it has also served as the administration building, nurses office and hosted several district events.

Since 2000, Spring Hill ISD worked to transform the historic building into a museum filled with the district's history. Lining the walls are pictures of former classes, band uniforms, football memorabilia and much more.

"We would like to have a historical marker and so we are in the process of working on that and filling out the application,” Curator Annette Wolverton said.

If you would like to check out the museum contact Spring Hill ISD. On October 5, during Homecoming Weekend, the Education Foundation is honoring distinguished alumni at the Teacherage.

On October 6, the Alumni Association is hosting a car and truck show from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Event proceeds go toward the museum's upkeep and two scholarships for seniors.
