SPCA of East Texas to host New Year's Eve Ball Drop for second year

The event is scheduled to run from noon on Dec. 31 at Bossart Park in Tyler and live stream on Facebook.

TYLER, Texas — The SPCA of East Texas is bringing back their New Year's Eve Ball Drop fundraiser for its second year this Sunday.

Tennis balls will be available for purchase for $5 and will be spread out across Bossart Bark Park at noon on Sunday.

Nora, a SPCA rescued dog, will chase an unnumbered ball into the pile and return with the winning numbered ball.

"This is a fun fundraiser that we like to do at the end of the year. It gives us one more little push for donations. You can go to our website  fill out the form and to make your donation there and we will send you back your number. The first place winner gets to split the jackpot with the SPCA," SPCA East Texas Executive Director Kat Cortelyou said.

The tennis balls are available until Sunday morning and volunteers are hoping to exceed last year's 985 tennis balls sold.

Currently, SPCA of East Texas has only raised $600 and hopes they can meet their goals before the deadline.

Cortelyou explains the more tennis balls sold, the bigger the first place prize will be.

For people interested in tuning into the live stream, you can visit their Facebook page for more information.
