LONGVIEW, Texas — Some Longview ISD will receive more than $30,000 extra in their paychecks this month as the school district awards over $7.3 million in incentive pay.
According to the school district, the incentive program will lead to 11 teachers making over $100,000 this year.
"We're thrilled with the excellent progress all our teachers and staff are making with students across the entire district," Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox said.
Wilcox said the goal of the program is to maintain successful and effective teachers in the regular classrooms.
"We could not be more excited to see our teachers receive these dollar amounts," he said. "But our students are the real winners!"
Incentive bonus distribution came in "lump sum" disbursement starting this Tuesday. The incentive program is funded through Longview ISD's fund balance that was approved by the board of trustees.
Ms. Shalona McCray, LISD chief human resources officer, said the district uses aggressive pay structure and the Longview Incentive For Teachers (LIFT) program to make these incentives possible.
"We have some amazing teachers who go the extra mile and the LIFT Program allows the district to show our deep appreciation for the amazing work they are doing," she said. "Our students perform better, our teachers make more money. It's as simple as that."
