Southern Utilities lifts boil water notice for customers in Smith, Cherokee counties

The initial notice was put into place June 4.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Southern Utilities Company has lifted a boil water notice that was put in place earlier this week for their customers in Smith and Cherokee counties.

According to the company, due the recent thunderstorms and power outages in the area, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required the water system to notify all customers in Smith and Cherokee counties to boil their water prior to consumption.

As of Saturday, June 8, the company says they have taken the "necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use."
