Smith County distribution centers in Chapel Hill, Lindale to close by 3PM

On Friday, the centers will open up at 8 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. The sites will no longer be in service afterward.

CHAPEL HILL, Texas — Two distribution centers for people impacted by the severe storms will closed by 3 p.m. Friday, June 7. 

Smith County officials opened up the centers to offer resources to those in need on Wednesday. 

The Chapel Hill High School location closed at 1:20 p.m., Friday. The First Baptist Church, located at 103 E. Van Street in Lindale, will close at 3 p.m.

The Forest Service has also sent crews from its Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System to help the City of Tyler and Smith County clear trees from roadways, Smith County Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Moore said. The crews have been assisting first responders and the Smith County Road and Bridge Department crews in clearing roads since Tuesday. 

Moore said these crews were instrumental Tuesday in expediting emergency response and their work is continuing into Wednesday. 

The Red Cross also has a shelter available at Bullard Intermediate School open, as long as there is a need for them. Smith County Community Emergency Response Team is helping as well in coordination with Bullard ISD

Anyone in need of shelter or assistance can call 1-800-REDCROSS and choose Option 4 for assistance.

COUNTY OFFICES

As of Thursday, all Smith County Justice of the Peace and Constables Offices in Lindale, Winona and Troup have reopened after power, phones and internet systems have been restored.
