Smith County Jail inmate dies after being found unresponsive in his cell

Moore was in the Smith County Jail since Feb. 13 of this year and officials say he was frequently seen in the clinic.

TYLER, Texas — A Smith County Jail inmate died Monday morning at a local hospital after he was found unresponsive in his cell over theweekend. 

Albert Lee Moore, 57, was found unresponsive at the Smith County Central Jail facility on Sunday around 8 p.m. Medical personnel performed lifesaving procedures while waiting for EMS to arrive, according to the Smith County Sheriff's Office. 

He was taken to the hospital, where he died on Monday just before 7 a.m. Smith County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Derrick Choice ordered an autopsy, and the body was taken to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, the sheriff's office said. 

Moore was in the Smith County Jail since Feb. 13 of this year and officials say he was frequently seen in the clinic. SCSO reported the death to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards in Austin and the Texas Rangers are investigating per regular protocol.
