Smith County firefighter injured while responding to fire in Lindale

Nikki Simmons with Emergency Services District 2 said fire was able to work its way underneath a responder's gear, causing second-degree burns to his leg.

LINDALE, Texas — A firefighter with Smith County Emergency Services District 2 was injured Wednesday night while battling a fire in Lindale.

According to Nikki Simmons with SCESD 2, the call came in around 7:48 p.m. for an alarm in a shed on CR 468. Smith County firefighters responded to assist Lindale Fire. 

Simmons said fire was able to work its way underneath a responder's gear, causing second-degree burns to his leg. He was transported to a nearby hospital, and has since been released. He is expected to make a full recovery.
