Smith County, City of Troup enter agreement to improve roads

The city's Community Development Corporation is funding the project from the city's half-cent sales tax revenue.

TROUP, Texas — Smith County Road and Bridge crews have begun work on road improvements in the city of Troup.

County crews on Wednesday paved portions of North Georgia Street and North Carolina Street that are heavily used by businesses and schools, according to the news release from Smith County.

The improvements are part of an interlocal agreement approved by the Smith County Commissioners Court and Troup City Council, whereby Troup will pay the county for the labor and materials necessary for road improvements. The city's Community Development Corporation is funding the project from the city's half-cent sales tax revenue.

Improvements to portions of East McKay Street and Pascal Street are planned for a later date.
